The Cerulean Information Factory (CIF) is a demonstration project led by Polar View and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) under its Green Transition Information Factories (GTIF) initiative, built with EOX, the National Research Council of Canada, the Danish Meteorological Institute and C-CORE. It develops decision-support tools for three marine sectors in the North Atlantic and Arctic between Canada and Europe: Arctic shipping, offshore renewable energy and aquaculture. The United Nations has endorsed it as project No. 65.7 of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
The public Beta Dashboard combines Sentinel-1 and RADARSAT Constellation Mission SAR imagery, Sentinel-2 optical imagery, ice charts, AI-derived sea-ice products and Copernicus Marine Service ocean, wave, wind and biogeochemistry products. Users run on-demand algorithms in the browser: route optimisation for ships in ice that integrates the IMO Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) regulation and the POLARIS ship risk index; harshness and structure-icing indices for offshore sites; a Sentinel-1 InSAR land-stability check for wind farm siting on peat bogland; a wind-turbine wake-effect view; a turbidity index for cable landfall planning; and area statistics on water quality and plankton for aquaculture site assessment. Step-by-step tutorials document each tool.
In the demonstration version some algorithms are restricted, for example route optimisation to a single ice chart. Polar View offers to customise CIF functionality on request.

Polar View
Polar View is a not-for-profit organisation that provides satellite-based information and data services for the polar regions and the cryosphere. Its members, including service providers, government agencies, research institutes and universities in Europe and North America, deliver sea ice, ice-edge and iceberg, lake and river ice, snow cover and glacier monitoring. It also operates the Polar Thematic Exploitation Platform (Polar TEP), a cloud environment for analysing polar Earth observation data.
