Cecil is a spatial data marketplace from Cecil Earth Inc. that gives enterprise and developer teams access to 40+ commercial and open datasets under one agreement and one integration. It addresses a common problem for nature, ESG and risk analysts: finding suitable datasets, negotiating separate licences with each provider, and harmonising files that differ in units, projections and formats before any analysis can start.
Datasets come from providers such as Planet, Chloris, Kanop, Sylvera, Lobelia Earth, Impact Observatory, CTrees, Emmi, IBAT, the Natural History Museum, WRI, JRC, UMD, USDA and USGS. Many are derived from satellite data, and each dataset page documents its provenance: for example, Chloris aboveground biomass is built from Landsat 5/7/8/9, GEDI and ICESat/GLAS; Planet Forest Carbon Diligence from Landsat 8/9, Sentinel-2, ALOS PALSAR-2 and GEDI; Planet Soil Water Content from SMAP, AMSR-2 and Sentinel-2; and WRI Tropical Tree Cover from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2. Other datasets cover biodiversity, protected areas, asset locations and physical climate hazards.
Users define an area of interest in GeoJSON, subscribe to a dataset through the open-source Python SDK, receive webhook notifications on delivery, and load results as xarray Datasets (raster) or GeoDataFrames (vector). Each dataset is vetted and documented by scientists, with variables, units and usage notes. Stated use cases include EUDR due diligence, TNFD and CSRD disclosures, carbon accounting and MRV, drought monitoring and data-centre site selection. Most commercial datasets carry a published per-hectare price (some, such as IBAT layers, are sold as annual licences), and a free account gives access to 30+ free datasets.
