Blue IG

Blue IG is an image generator from BAE Systems OneArc, formerly VBS Blue IG from Bohemia Interactive Simulations. It renders the out-the-window and sensor views of a training simulator. Without a global database, terrain has to be developed and loaded for each training area; Blue IG ships with a whole-earth terrain database, so a scenario can run anywhere in the world.

The baseline global terrain is geo-specific and procedurally enhanced, with 3D roads, buildings and vegetation generated from global data sets. OneArc's third-party notices for Blue IG list the satellite-derived data it contains: EOX Sentinel-2 cloudless mosaics (2016 and 2022), NASA MODIS and Blue Marble Next Generation imagery, SRTM elevation, Airbus satellite imagery and Blackshark.ai terrain data. Developers can add their own satellite imagery or high-resolution terrain for areas of special interest.

Blue IG renders day, dusk and night scenes with weather across synchronised multi-channel displays and simulates electro-optical, infrared, night-vision and synthetic aperture radar sensors. It connects to host simulators through the CIGI standard (versions 2.0 to 4.0), supports AR/VR headsets and has an SDK for custom extensions. It runs on Windows PCs with NVIDIA graphics cards, from portable trainers to dome and multi-channel systems.

Published users include the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Center's Black Hawk Aircrew Trainer and the UK Ministry of Defence, which selected VBS4 and VBS Blue IG for its Defence Virtual Simulation (DVS2) capability. In June 2026 Indra Group and OneArc signed a memorandum of agreement on integrating VBS4 and Blue IG into the Spanish Army vehicle simulators Indra builds.
