Biomass Atlas is Sylvera's forest carbon dataset. Carbon credits from forestry projects depend on estimates of how much biomass a forest holds, and those estimates usually come from plot sampling that covers a fraction of a project area, or from allometric and satellite-only models that Sylvera says carry large regional biases.
The dataset gives above-ground biomass density (Mg/ha) and 95th-percentile canopy height at 30 m resolution, annually from 2000 onwards, with a residual standard error for every pixel. Region-specific machine-learning models predict GEDI spaceborne-lidar canopy height from Landsat green-period composites (Landsat 5, 7, 8 and 9). Biome-specific models then convert canopy height to biomass, calibrated on Sylvera's own multi-scale lidar (terrestrial, drone and helicopter laser scanning) where available and on GEDI L4A biomass elsewhere. A per-pixel layer shows how much of each value comes from the multi-scale lidar models. Sylvera has spent more than $10 million on these lidar campaigns, covering 250,000+ hectares on five continents, and reports project-area errors below 10% for projects over 400 ha.
Project developers, investors, registries and governments use the data for baselines, monitoring, due diligence and jurisdictional REDD+ and NDC work. In Brazil, Sylvera is working with the State of Acre to independently assess forest carbon credits for jurisdictional REDD+ programmes, and in the UK it is collaborating with the Woodland Carbon Code, Scottish Forestry and IUCN UK PP to bring field-calibrated Earth observation into forest carbon monitoring and issuance. In May 2026 Sylvera became one of the first data service providers to meet the Stocking Index requirements of Verra's VM0047 reforestation methodology, after a pilot with developer The Green Branch. The data is delivered by API, directly from Sylvera or through the Cecil data platform, and is being made available through Verra's Project Hub.

Sylvera
Sylvera provides independent ratings and market intelligence for carbon credits and low-carbon commodities. Its products include carbon credit ratings on an AAA to D scale for more than 3,000 projects, from pre-issuance onwards, market intelligence on supply, demand and pricing, an Article 6 & CORSIA Hub, and carbon intensity and eligibility assessments for commodities. For nature-based projects it uses its own biomass and Earth observation data, including Biomass Atlas, a forest carbon dataset calibrated with multi-scale lidar field campaigns.
