Atfarm is a web and mobile app from Yara International that helps farmers and advisors plan crop nutrition and apply nitrogen where crops need it. Yara Research and Development created it in 2018.
It uses Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery, refreshed every three to five days with up to two years of history, and turns cloud-free images into biomass maps: an NDVI map, an optimised map based on the Yara N-Sensor Index, and an N-uptake map estimating absorbed nitrogen in kg N/ha. Yara says the index, built on 25+ years of research and 250+ trials with its tractor-mounted N-Sensor, still separates dense canopies where NDVI saturates. Crop- and region-specific calibrations cover cereals, maize, oilseed rape, potatoes and grassland.
Users turn these into variable-rate nitrogen application maps, exported as ISO-XML or Shapefile files for spreader terminals or shared as WorkPlans with John Deere Operations Center. Without a variable-rate spreader, the mobile app's GPS-guided Drive Mode serves instead. Atfarm also includes a free Nutrition Plan with season-long nutrient recommendations per crop and field, N-Photo Analysis, which estimates early nitrogen uptake in cereals from smartphone photos, and a Bluetooth link to Yara's handheld N-Tester BT.
Atfarm is free to use. A Yara-published case reports a 3 t/ha maize yield rise on a farm in Durango, Mexico, using Atfarm with Yara's MásMaiz programme. It is offered through country sites in Europe, the Americas and South Africa; in several European markets, including the UK, Ireland and Germany, its tools are moving into Yara's YaraPlus platform during 2026.
