AI4I

AI4I is Geo4i's artificial-intelligence chain for satellite imagery, built to help imagery analysts screen large areas and many images. It detects, recognises and identifies activity on land, in the air and at sea, and detects sites of interest such as airfields, ports, oil storage areas and dams, using single-class or multiclass models.

The chain has four modules. A labelling tool builds training datasets, manages classes (light vehicle, aircraft, ship, port site) and creates vector masks. A training module generates a neural-network model from that dataset. An automatic detector applies one or more models to imagery. An activity report presents the detector's results as a dashboard for analysis by site or by country, with detections on a map, a timeline and linked interactive charts. Detection results can be reviewed to invalidate false detections and refine the training base. Coupled with Geo4i's Help4i equipment database, AI4I masks a detected object, measures its length and width and proposes a list of matching equipment types.

European Space Imaging, which distributes it as the AI Chain from Geo4i, describes a TensorFlow-based GEOINT and IMINT API environment tailored to defence and intelligence needs. Training sets are generated from the user's own imagery, and the product can be integrated into Geo4i's GeoSpace platform and deployed within the customer's secured infrastructure. Geo4i's examples show site detection on Sentinel imagery and military ship recognition on very-high-resolution imagery. In a 2023 interview, Geo4i said its AI had cut human verification time on a large-area analysis from 30 hours to 30 minutes.
