Description

About the call

The Interreg North-West Europe (NWE) first Capitalisation Call invites projects from cities, regions, universities, NGOs and other public and private organisations across North-West Europe to capitalise — that is, transfer, upscale and replicate — solutions already developed by earlier Interreg NWE projects or other transnational cooperation programmes. NWE covers Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland (with national funding) and parts of the UK as a third country. The call opened 11 December 2025 and closes 28 May 2026.

Format

Capitalisation projects are typically shorter and lighter than standard NWE cooperation projects — they take an existing innovation, methodology, model or product and roll it out to new territories, users or sectors. They are not meant to fund net-new R&D.

What this means for cities and regions

For cities and regional bodies in NWE that have benefited from an Interreg project (own or partner) and want to ensure the result lives on after the project — or for cities that want to bring a proven solution from another NWE region into their own. Best fit when the team has a clear "thing to transfer" rather than a new problem to explore. With the deadline imminent, the realistic value of this entry in iteration 1 is reference rather than action.

Eligibility notes

Who can apply

  • Public bodies, regional authorities, cities, NGOs, universities, research centres, and private organisations established in the NWE programme area: Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, parts of Switzerland (with national funding) and parts of the United Kingdom (as a third country, with restricted funding access).

Partnership composition

  • Cross-border partnerships covering at least two NWE countries are typically required.
  • Specific minimum partnership rules depend on the Programme Manual; consult the Terms of Reference for the call.

Co-financing

  • Up to 60% ERDF for partners in NWE EU Member States.
  • Swiss and UK partners are co-financed through national mechanisms.

Restrictions

  • Capitalisation projects must build on results from a previous Interreg project or equivalent transnational cooperation programme. New-research-only projects are not eligible.
  • The deadline of 28 May 2026 is imminent — any new applicant from this iteration onwards is unlikely to have time to assemble a competitive proposal.

Application

Submission via the Jems online portal. Detailed Terms of Reference for the call are available on the Interreg NWE Programme website.
