Carto

The Spheer App (called Carto until its 2026 rebrand) is a browser-based geo-AI platform that turns Sentinel-2 satellite imagery into ready-to-use maps, change-detection products and yearly trend analyses going back to 2017. It is built on Spheer's in-house geospatial foundation model, trained on years of Sentinel-2 time series: users draw or import a handful of example observations, train a custom classification, regression or detection model directly in the browser, and get a usable map in about 10 minutes, a claimed 95% reduction in analysis time. A high-resolution model variant combines Sentinel-2 with 25 cm Dutch (PDOK) aerial imagery for 1.68 m output.

The platform is designed for organisations without specialised data teams: no AI or satellite knowledge is required. It scales from a single municipality or nature reserve to entire provinces (2.58 million hectares monitored so far) and supports nature and biodiversity, agriculture, water, spatial-planning and climate-adaptation use cases. Maps export as GeoTIFF for QGIS, ArcGIS and other GIS tools, and an API is available for advanced integrations. Spheer states the product follows the European AI Act and reports 150+ active users across 20 organisations, including the provinces of Groningen and Noord-Brabant and the drinking-water company PWN.
