Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS)

The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) is one of the six thematic services of the European Union's Copernicus programme, providing free, open geospatial information on land cover and its changes, land use, ground motion, vegetation state, the water cycle and Earth surface energy variables. It is jointly implemented by the European Environment Agency (EEA), which coordinates the European/pan-European component, and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), which coordinates the global component. CLMS products are derived primarily from Copernicus Sentinel missions — notably Sentinel-1 (SAR) for ground motion and Sentinel-2 (optical) for land cover and high-resolution layers — supplemented by commercial and in-situ reference data. Flagship products include the CORINE Land Cover inventory (44 thematic classes across European countries), the High Resolution Layers (imperviousness, forests, grasslands, crop types), bio-geophysical variables, the European Ground Motion Service, land satellite mosaics, and global 10 m dynamic land cover. All datasets are free of charge for any purpose, accessed via the CLMS data viewer and catalogue, a download API, and the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (OData, STAC, S3, Sentinel Hub).

• High Resolution Layers: Sentinel-2-based imperviousness, forests, grasslands and crop-type products updated annually.
• Ground motion: European Ground Motion Service measuring natural and anthropogenic surface displacement from Sentinel-1 SAR.
• Bio-geophysical variables: Long-term time series of vegetation, water cycle and energy parameters.
• Open data access: Free download via web portal, download API, and Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (OData, STAC, S3, Sentinel Hub).
