Environmental Monitoring Platform

CLS's Environmental Monitoring Platform ingests multi-source satellite imagery (radar, optical, altimetry) and in-situ sensor data, transforming them into georeferenced environmental and climate indicators. Built on over three decades of Earth observation expertise — including Sentinel-1 SAR reception and processing via the VIGISAT network, long-term satellite archives reaching back to 1992, and machine learning — the platform delivers change detection, land-use mapping, hydrological and water modelling, flood and drought tracking, air quality monitoring, and agricultural analysis (85% accuracy in cultivated land surface).

The service is delivered as an operational decision-support platform for governments and organisations, providing near-real-time alerts and historical trend analysis. It tracks key climate indicators such as Global Mean Sea Level (3.6 mm/year rise), supports territorial and urban planning, and integrates outputs from Argos beacon data (~80,000 beacons/month) alongside Copernicus programme contributions. CLS is a CNES subsidiary and works with ESA, EUMETSAT, NASA, NOAA, JAXA and ISRO.
