GTIF AT

GTIF Austria (Green Transition Information Factories – Austrian Capabilities) is Austria's national Green Transition Information Factory. It turns Earth Observation data into geospatial information for Austria's green transition and climate adaptation. ESA started it in spring 2022 as the first GTIF demonstrator, working with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI) and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). Its first public beta followed in early 2023. The current platform at gtif-austria.info was built under ESA's GTIF Austria Consolidation Activity to prepare the handover of governance from ESA to Austria. ESA reported in May 2026 that national funding approaching EUR 10 million has been secured and that a governance and sustainability model has been developed to keep the platform running beyond project funding.

GTIF Austria is a showcase and marketplace for 'GTIF Capabilities' from Austrian organisations. These include AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, GeoSphere Austria, Umweltbundesamt, GeoVille, Energiewerkstatt, AEE INTEC, ubicube and N Vision. The capabilities cover five domains: Energy Transition, Mobility Transition, Sustainable Cities, Carbon Accounting and EO (Climate) Adaptation Services. Examples:

• renewable-energy potential and site-identification maps;
• wind and solar nowcasting;
• hourly urban temperature forecasts and urban heat-risk maps;
• InSAR deformation monitoring of roads and bridges;
• LULUCF land-use maps for national greenhouse-gas reporting;
• snow monitoring for hydropower;
• climate indicators for tourism regions. Inputs include Copernicus Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-5P data.

The public site shows free demonstration data, often limited in area or time. Customers who want the full service scope and coverage arrange it directly with each capability provider, under that provider's own commercial plans. EOX IT Services GmbH operates the platform on its EOxHub workspaces, with the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem as its native hosting environment.

Key capabilities:

• Narrative Gallery: Scientific stories that describe each capability, its input data, how it is delivered, and its subscription terms.
• Explore Data dashboard: An interactive WebGIS for maps, indicators and time series, backed by a public STAC catalogue.
• Machine-to-machine interfaces: OGC API (pygeoapi) and STAC API (eoAPI) endpoints for system integration and on-demand processing.
• Provider workspace: The Narrative Editor and Data Editor for publishing, plus JupyterLab and Argo Workflows for developing and running capability workflows, as documented in the GTIF-Austria Technical Handbook.
