Parametric Data Service

Parametric Data Service is EarthDaily's API of historical environmental and agronomic data for designing parametric insurance indices in agriculture. Parametric policies pay out automatically when predefined triggers such as rainfall levels or vegetation indices are met, so actuaries need consistent, long-term datasets at the right spatial and temporal resolution to set and backtest those triggers.

The service provides four indicators, each with global coverage from 2004 to the present:

• Vegetation (NDVI): an inter-calibrated NDVI based on MODIS and Sentinel-3 acquisitions, with daily updates.
• NDVI masking: NDVI restricted to combined vegetation, combined crops, a specific crop type or pasture, using crop mask layers produced before, during and at the end of the season from EarthDaily's own science and official sources (USDA, France's Agence de Service et de Paiement and the Canadian Soil Information Service).
• Precipitation: about 5 km resolution, combining two climate datasets with modelling, satellite imagery and ground-truth data.
• Soil moisture: 9 km resolution with daily updates, from land-surface modelling and observational data assimilation.

Data can be requested for predefined administrative units (U.S. counties, Brazilian municipios, French communes) or for custom user-defined polygons. EarthDaily states that all sources are cross-calibrated for consistency and that data from its own EarthDaily Constellation will be integrated. The API is documented through Swagger UI and ReDoc with an interactive sandbox, with sample data on request. The service is aimed at actuaries, data scientists, insurers, reinsurers and financial institutions; it is distinct from EarthDaily's Portfolio Management product, which covers indemnity-based crop insurance.
