gaiasense

NEUROPUBLIC's gaiasense is a smart farming system, sold as an annual subscription, that gives farmers and their advisers field-level advice on irrigation, fertilisation and crop protection. It combines three data sources: measurements from NEUROPUBLIC's own network of more than 400 gaiatron telemetric agrometeorological stations across Greece (with around 30 more in five other European countries), remote sensing imagery including ESA Sentinel-2 satellite images, and field records entered by farmers and agronomists. The data are processed on NEUROPUBLIC's cloud platform with machine-learning models and delivered through the gaiasense app for Android and iOS and through applications for computers. gaiasense serves producers, agronomists and researchers, cooperatives and agri-food enterprises, and reports 80,000 users in Greece and abroad across 26 crop types.

Key capabilities:

• IoT Telemetry Integration: gaiatron stations, designed and built by NEUROPUBLIC and installed at no cost to cooperating producers, record air and soil temperature, air and soil humidity, soil salinity, leaf wetness, rainfall and solar radiation every ten minutes.
• Satellite Vegetation Monitoring: NDVI from Sentinel-2 images (a new image every 5 days), plus indices such as NDWI, to spot uneven growth, irrigation or fertilisation problems and weeds.
• Field-Specific Weather & Warnings: a five-day forecast for each parcel, improved with station data, and warnings of hail, frost, heavy rain or heatwaves up to 48 hours ahead.
• Irrigation, Nutrition & Crop Protection Advice: ETo and rainfall indices for irrigation timing, nutrition recipes and nutrient balances from soil analyses, and a spray suitability index for every three hours over the next three days.
• Farm Records & Parcel Management: a digital work calendar for irrigation, fertilisation, spraying, harvest and soil management, with parcel mapping and a stored history.
• Subscription Packages: gaiasense 1 costs €30/year + VAT. The agro and business packages (business from 30 users) add station history, soil clustering studies, sustainability indicators, irrigation strategies and agronomist support.
• Demonstrated Impact: in the EU LIFE GAIA Sense project (2018–2022), coordinated by NEUROPUBLIC, fertiliser use fell by 33%, water by 18%, pesticides by 24% and fuel by 40% across 18 demonstrations in Greece, Spain and Portugal. In 2026 the European Green Digital Coalition featured gaiasense as an agriculture case study on net climate impact.

Named users include CONFAGRI, Portugal's national confederation of agricultural cooperatives, which has used gaiasense since 2019, and SEKE, the Cooperative Union of Tobacco Producers of Greece, which signed an agreement in 2019 to roll it out to its tobacco producers as sekesense.
