Geoneon Wildfire maps where landscape conditions could produce severe wildfire and which buildings, communities and infrastructure are most exposed, to support preparedness, mitigation and prioritisation before fire seasons rather than live response. Its core outputs are a Wildfire Severity Index (WSI), a relative 1–10 surface combining vegetation and fuel, terrain and climate/dryness, and a building-level Wildfire Exposure Index (WEI) that summarises WSI conditions around each building footprint. Projects can also examine fire-weather and climate indicators, such as the Fire Weather Index, across locations, seasons or climate periods as planning context rather than live forecasting, and assess exposure of infrastructure such as roads and freight corridors, as in a proof of concept for the Shire of Dundas.
The vegetation component is derived with AI from satellite imagery: Sentinel-2 Level-2A imagery at 10 m underpins the vegetation layer, and 50 cm high-resolution imagery (eight-band Maxar imagery in the Shire of Dundas project) supports detailed urban and infrastructure mapping. Topography comes from the Copernicus DEM and climate from ANUCLIM. Results are delivered as GIS-ready rasters, interactive web maps and reports, with analysis configured per project; the model was validated against post-fire dNBR burn severity for the 2013 Dunalley and 2019 Busby's Flat fires.
Deployments include the Greater Hobart Bushfire Exposure Index, funded by the National Emergency Management Agency and updated with local councils since 2022 (94,000+ buildings across 132 suburbs in 2024); the nationwide Bhutan Forest Fire Exposure Index (400,000+ buildings), funded by the World Bank and administered by ADPC; and the Tasmania Wildfire Index 2026 (450,356 building footprints). Geoneon states the indices are not a probability of fire, a live warning or a fire-spread forecast.
