DataCosmos

DataCosmos is Open Cosmos's cloud-based Earth observation platform for finding, ordering and working with satellite imagery. Rather than dealing with a separate provider and tool for each mission, users reach imagery from Open Cosmos's own OpenConstellation satellites (the Hyper-500 hyperspectral, Multi-500 multispectral and VNIR-250 products) and from third-party sources such as Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Landsat 8/9 and SuperView-1 through one catalogue.

Users search a global archive by area of interest, date, satellite, processing level and cloud cover, task OpenConstellation satellites for new acquisitions with cloud-coverage estimation, and view and analyse imagery in the browser with layer controls, time series and band algebra indices such as NDVI and NDWI. An Applications Hub runs Open Cosmos and partner applications (Quasar, Orbital EOS, Nax Solutions) for water turbidity, oil spill detection, burn severity, crop monitoring and object detection.

The catalogue follows the STAC API specification and serves Cloud Optimised GeoTIFFs. REST APIs and a Python SDK cover search, pricing, ordering and tasking, so imagery can be fed into GIS, AI and analytics pipelines. Purchases are made under an organisation's contract and can be paid from pre-paid credits, and the platform can be deployed in the cloud or on premises. Open Cosmos was selected in 2023 to build the national geoplatform of Peru's space agency CONIDA on DataCosmos, and has integrated DataCosmos with the UK Earth Observation Data Hub.
