CompassAA is CompassData's desktop software for verifying the horizontal positional accuracy and quality of orthophotos, including satellite and aerial imagery. Imagery producers, buyers and users need documented proof that an orthophoto meets a contract or regulatory accuracy specification before it is delivered or relied on.
The user loads geo-referenced images and a .csv table of surveyed ground checkpoints in the same projected coordinate system, then locates each photo-identifiable checkpoint in the imagery. CompassAA compares the image-derived coordinates with the surveyed coordinates and computes RMSE, CE90, CE95 and NSSDA error statistics, with a circular error plot, a vector offset plot and values over a user-set threshold highlighted. It produces standardised reports, which can include photos of each point, against the NSSDA, ASPRS, NMAS and MIL standards; reviewed checkpoints can be exported as .csv or .shp files.
CompassAA runs as standalone software on Microsoft Windows and is licensed by subscription, with a 14-day free trial. It is based on the Accuracy Analyst tool that CompassData bought from Spatial Information Solutions in 2014. CompassData holds FAA DO-200A approval to use its ground control points and this tool to verify the accuracy of satellite or aerial imagery for aviation mapping products, and uses CompassAA to verify its satellite Airport Imagery Archive. A companion tool, CompassTA, covers elevation data.
