2Excel Geo is the remote sensing unit of 2Excel Aviation, based at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire, UK. It offers consultancy-led, bespoke remote sensing work rather than a single software product, choosing the platform and sensor to suit each problem.
Forest, land and infrastructure managers need to know where trees are, how healthy they are, which ones threaten assets, and where invasive plants or wildlife are present, across areas too large to survey on foot. 2Excel Geo covers the chain from data capture to delivery. Its own aircraft collects hyperspectral imagery (visible to shortwave infrared), true-colour aerial photography and thermal imagery, which its analysts process in-house with their own software and algorithms. Most products are airborne. Satellite data is used where scale matters: Canopy Mapping is listed as a satellite survey, the provider says it derives canopy cover maps from both airborne and satellite data, and its published project work includes Sentinel-2 analyses.
Listed products are Tree Health Mapping, Tree Risk Mapping, Canopy Mapping, seal and deer surveys, tasked aerial photography at 1 to 10 cm resolution, hyperspectral survey, digital surface and terrain models, and detection of rhododendron, Japanese knotweed, Himalayan balsam and material susceptible to spruce bark beetle. Outputs are analysis-ready imagery, maps and datasets for use in GIS.
2Excel Aviation states that Geo delivers Tree Risk Mapping for Britain's railways on behalf of Network Rail. 2Excel Geo also reports rhododendron mapping projects funded by the Woodland Trust and the South Downs National Park Authority, and a case study in which its method detected more than 90% of rhododendron at four independent test sites.
