FIREWATCH

FireWatch is a wildfire prediction, detection and monitoring platform from Geospatial Insight that combines Earth observation satellite data with weather forecasts and environmental data to deliver near-real-time wildfire intelligence, with spatial coverage across North America, Australia, Southern Europe and the UK.

The platform ingests thermal hotspot detections from MODIS, VIIRS and other EO satellites, refreshed up to four times daily, and combines them with high-resolution (2 km) weather models, daily soil moisture data, historical wildfire records and, in the US, IRWIN wildfire perimeter data. It produces fire perimeter updates, predictions of the likelihood and direction of fire spread, and quantified risk to property and infrastructure.

Key capabilities:

• Hotspot Detection: Thermal hotspot detection from MODIS, VIIRS and other EO satellites, updated up to four times per day.
• Fire Perimeter & Spread Prediction: Near-real-time fire perimeter updates plus prediction of the likelihood and direction of fire spread, with near-real-time fire intensity and wind direction intelligence to flag when exposures lie on the path of an active fire.
• Wildfire Risk Index: A daily-updated risk index combining environmental, climate and weather data feeds, supporting underwriting, parametric triggers, claims and resilience planning.
• Post-Event & Trend Analysis: Post-event impact overlays, optional AI-driven damage assessment from high-resolution satellite imagery, and historical wildfire records used to eliminate false positives and model future trends.
• Alerting & Integration: Automated alerts, a customisable dashboard, GIS files, CSV and PDF reports, and a REST API with webhooks for embedding into emergency response and insurance workflows.
