Hazard Data is KatRisk's location-level catastrophe hazard dataset for insurers, reinsurers and other risk analysts who need to understand how exposed a property is to natural perils. It provides return-period hazard values and risk scores for inland flood (worldwide), tropical cyclone wind (worldwide), storm surge (US and Australia), severe convective storm (US) and wildfire (US). Climate change data layers show how risk may shift: for storm surge and inland flood they include flood depths, relative risk scores and uniform-exposure average annual losses for scenarios from the present to 2100, and US climate data can be queried through an API by longitude and latitude.
The values come from KatRisk's catastrophe models. Flood hazard is computed with physically based hydrologic and hydraulic models on 10 m terrain in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and 10-30 m terrain in Europe, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. In Canada the terrain is KatDEM, a unified 10 m model that uses lidar where it exists and an enhanced, hydro-conditioned version of the satellite-derived Copernicus DEM (~30 m) elsewhere, with forests and buildings removed so the model sees bare earth.
National Flood Experts uses KatRisk's flood hazard data and APIs to power its Flocom platform for NFIP-style premium estimation, mitigation testing and portfolio analysis. Vave integrates KatRisk's high-resolution flood hazard data directly into the underwriting and pricing engine behind its US flood product.
The data is also available inside Insurity's SpatialKey through its Data Marketplace, where the flood layer provides flood depths at the 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500-year return periods with a score and an overall rank.
